Production Technical Skill Development
Cinematography
I have created this video to make sure i understand camera angles, shots and depth of field. I also made sure that I can easily understand each camera angle/ shot. we practised this so then we can understand the shots and how much detail each scene should have when it comes to pre-planning any forms of filming. I have learnt to put more time and effort into making an interesting and unique product with a range of camera angles. I have also learned to focus on the quality of work and make sure that everything is up to a high standard and get rid of the ones that weren't very good. This project helped me by knowing the meaning and understanding the importance of cinematography so then a certain message is conveyed to better effect which will help with the Better Health Campaign as I can create more meaningful shots.
Induction Project
Planning Stage
In addition to this Powerpoint, I also wanted to add audio over the top of a section of my advert. This was to add extra entertainment. I decided not to do a massive script and only wrote down a few bullet points which you can see here:
I decided not to do a fully-fledged out script due to the fact I wanted a more entertaining/ not robot-like part/s of my advert. Overall, I have learnt how to transport images to my SD card as I did not know how to do that until now. This planning stage helped massively as I now know how to interpret a brief and make improvements from it and make sure that the client is satisfied with the brief which will help for the Better Health Campaign.
Production
Overall, from production, I have learnt how to set up a tripod as I had never done that before. Production helped for future projects as I overcame filming on a busy campus and how to adapt to a specific situation.
Post production
Editing
I have learnt to edit on premiere pro as I had never used that software before. This will help me with the Better Health Campaign as I now have more experience with editing so then the process will be much quicker.
Final Product
Final Product
Here, you can see the final product of my college promotional campaign. It overall lasts 2 minutes and 37 seconds and remains at a high quality with no description or tags being made. Overall, I have learnt to manage my time efficiently so I can complete the project with minimal timing issues. This will help me for the Better Health Campaign as I will be much more organised with my time.
Evaluation
I gathered final feedback on the product through asking people to watch the advert. I got a lot of positive feedback such as the fact it looks professional and there are several funny parts in the advert. However, it was far from perfect, the audio quality in certain sections are not up to a high quality of standard especially compared to the audio recorded over the top, "the difference was night and day." Some shots also could've had better lighting and also that I should've used more equipment to keep some of the shots steady. In the future, I will work on improving lighting and also making sure that the audio is consistently good throughout the projects.
Areas for improvement
Audio-
The audio quality in certain sections are not up to a high quality of standard especially compared to the audio recorded over the top It is jarring and off putting in places where it changes from the lower quality to higher quality. Consistency is key so I will make sure to improve upon this in the future.
Cuts and Shots -
Next time i'm going to cut down shots as much as possible to make it look even more professional and also make sure the shots are less wobbly and have better equipment to use.
lighting in shots - Why is it bad and what could you do next time. Think if equipment.
The lighting in some instances were not up to par so i should think of lighting a lot more during pre-production stages, and even do more test shots if possible so then I can be more organised when it comes to lighting if needed.
plan-
Next time, I should plan out more thoughtful scripts to make sure I cover important information. I can do this through more storyboards, test shots and more. To better organise time, I should plan out specific camera angles and shots in great detail before we begin shooting.
Western Showdown
Overall, with creating this project, it has helped me by understand the importance of continuity. Whilst filming, there were several points where we had to use certain things as position placings (for example a cup) to make sure the continuity was consistent throughout the entire product. I had never tended to focus on this aspect until this project which is why it has massively helped me improve my practices whilst filming thus meaning I can take this knowledge and use it for the Better Health TV Advert. I also learnt the importance of scripting and planning out sections in depth to make sure filming goes as smoothly as possible as although we planned, we did not plan specific shots and parts which is something I will defiantly make sure to do better next time. Lastly, those who I worked with also agree that this project helped refine their continuity skills and also that they would want things to be more planned out for next time.
Photoshop
Overall, from my first time using Photoshop, I learnt how to use a plethora of tools such as the selection tool, colour editing/adjustments, clone tools which allowed me to hide things in images, magic selection tool which removed backgrounds, an eraser and background eraser, shape tool, paint bucket, a magnetic lasso which removed the important parts of the photo and get rid of backgrounds, the eye dropper tool and finally, I learnt how to download a font.
