In my Canon front cover and advertorial, I ensured to incorporate everything that a regular front cover and advertorial would (an issue number, smaller images, main/dominant image, subheading, bar code and additional information at the bottom of the front cover.) Before beginning to make these products, I had a few goals I wanted to achieve whilst making them which includes improving and getting used to Photoshop, creating two very high quality products and to follow the structure of a front cover and advertorial. I decided that my main colours for these products would be different shades of blue that would ultimately blend into a purple colour by the end of the advertorial. In addition, I tried to gather visually appealing images that linked to what I wanted to write about (YouTuber journey.) Moreover, I ensured that my products linked to the theme "journeys" by showing my story and how other people in my target audience could perhaps resonate or even go on there own YouTuber journey.
Inarguably, one of the most important factors that allowed me to keep on schedule and not get behind is by using my time-management skills. This allowed me to split the time I needed for each individual areas for this project so then I didn't have to stress out over something being unfinished as I gave myself enough time to go back through my work before the deadline and ensure that everything I needed was there.
Another fantastic element that allowed me to hit one of my goals is audience feedback which allowed me to make tweaks or major adjustments to my products to get the best quality possible.
Here, this is the first section of the project I completed; I put time and effort into researching the client to learn more about Canon which would allow me to understand the core values of Canon and to try and ensure there values are upheld through the products.
Along with researching Canon, I also researched some of Canon's previous products to get an understanding of the quality and style of Canon and how I should incorporate that into my own products to ensure Canon is represented in the best manner possible.
After completing the client research, I also took some time to research into my target audience by asking a group of people to answer my survey so then I know what they would want to see and what would engage them to read a front cover or an advertorial. These answers would also dictate what I would be putting in my advertorial and front cover as I wanted to ensure that the majority of my target audience would want to look at the subject (for example gaming.)
Overall, I learnt new skills throughout this project mostly linked to Photoshop. Prior to this project, I didn't need to use Photoshop due to having more accessible options outside college however due to the style I needed to make, I had to learn and use Photoshop which I did to the best of my abilities. Along with this, I used the skills I learnt throughout the previous projects to try and make the best products possible and be able to make any changes accordingly. If there was one thing I would've liked to done better if given another opportunity would be to spend more time experimenting and refining my final product as due to the shorter time frame, I couldn't experiment as much as I wanted to as I had to focus on getting the best quality product done in the shorter time frame I was given.
During the editing process, I also wanted to ensure that I was still promoting Canon as much as possible and their new product whilst still making it engaging and fun to read for the reader.
